Introducing K-OpenFOAM and BARAM to the Global OpenFOAM® Community

NEXTfoam participated in the 21st OpenFOAM® Workshop, held from June 29 to July 3, 2026, in Guimarães, Portugal.

The workshop was attended by NEXTfoam’s Director Jungku Yoon, Senior Engineer Kwangho Oh, and General Manager Hyejin Lee, who shared the latest technology trends, research cases, and industrial application experiences with OpenFOAM® users and developers from around the world.

At this event, NEXTfoam focused on introducing BARAM, an OpenFOAM-based open-source CFD platform developed in Korea, to the global OpenFOAM® community and highlighting the technical potential of K-OpenFOAM.

In particular, on the final day of the workshop, Director Jungku Yoon delivered a SPLASH TALK introducing BARAM’s vision, “The CFD for Everyone.” The presentation briefly covered the development background, key features, improvements in user accessibility, and simplified analysis workflows that have enabled BARAM to make the OpenFOAM-based CFD environment easier and more intuitive to use.

Approximately 250 participants from around the world attended this year’s workshop, including 19 participants from Korea, three of whom were from NEXTfoam. This demonstrated the growing presence and technical interest of Korean OpenFOAM® users and developers within the global community.

During the event, NEXTfoam exchanged ideas with professors and students from various Korean universities and also discussed BARAM and potential future collaborations with international OpenFOAM®-related companies and engineers. In addition, NEXTfoam promoted BARAM through character-designed fans that reflected a Korean aesthetic, receiving positive interest from participants.

At the workshop dinner, NEXTfoam had the opportunity to engage with OpenFOAM® users from around the world, sharing application cases and technical issues from different countries while expanding its global network.

Through its participation in the 21st OpenFOAM® Workshop, NEXTfoam once again confirmed the technological scalability and global market potential of OpenFOAM®. Moving forward, NEXTfoam will continue to build an environment where more researchers and engineers can use CFD easily and efficiently based on K-OpenFOAM and BARAM.
